Maud has a new civic organization.

Maud has a new civic organization. The name is Maud Beautification Group. A focus group of citizens were invited to an organizational meeting in January 2014 to discuss the feasibility of a group to improve the beauty and image of Maud. The focus group reached the conclusion that not only was it possible, it was needed. The focus group named the new organization, Maud Beautification Group. The purpose of this organization shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in the Beautification of the City of Maud, to stimulate the beautification of the city, to support and cooperate with the city in developing public areas for the enjoyment of the community. The Maud Beautification Group is a separate entity from the city, same as the Boy Scouts or the Lions club. The Maud Beautification Group will be seeking the city’s advice on certain projects as well as TX DOT on projects involving right of ways. The Maud Beautification Group’s goal is to bring back the beauty of Maud thereby improving the quality of life for the citizens of Maud and the surrounding area. The Maud Beautification Group is in the planning stages of upgrades for the Maud city signs on Hwy 67 and Hwy 8, and making City Hall a focal point of the downtown area. They also would like to do something for the park. The Maud Beautification Group met again on February 27, 2014. They agreed to have a Yard of the Month award. This will begin in April 2014 and runs thru September2014. The Maud Beautification Group will also present a yard of the week during December 2014. The Maud Beautification Group is finalizing the criteria for the yard of the month. The Maud Beautification Group will also aid the elderly with basic yard work as needed. The Maud Beautification Group will be seeking volunteers for these projects. As this is a new group, research was done to provide a basic plan for this organization. Nothing was found that matches this group. It is either a Garden club or a branch of larger city government. The Maud Beautification Group is charting new territory. The Maud Beautification Group invites anyone that is interested in the beauty of Maud to join. Membership dues are ten dollars a year. Currently meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month in the Maud Library annex at 7:00 pm. The Maud Beautification Group currently has about twenty members.
